Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue and joints of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic affect on the body and improves health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved, while physical dysfunction and pain can be relieved or prevented through the use of massage therapy.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone MassageHot Stone Massage combines heat and massage to create a relaxing, gentle yet effective treatment. The healing power of warmed stones has been recognized by numerous cultures for centuries. The deep heat of the basalt stones penetrates the muscles, providing an immediate relaxation response.

Mentally, the individual can reach a state of relaxation within minutes of applying the first stones. Smooth, water heated basalt stones are placed on the body, effecting the immediate skin area and other areas of the body via the nervous system.

The massage therapist may also use the hot stones to perform soothing, long massage strokes. The smooth texture of the stones and massage oil facilitates the gliding process. The combined use of various massage techniques and warm stones relaxes the body at its deepest level.

Along with relaxation, the heated stones have significant therapeutic effects. Because hot stones penetrate deep heat into soft tissues, it can be used to prepare tight muscles for deeper work such as trigger point therapy. The heat allows the soft tissue to relax deeper and quicker to help alleviate muscle tension and increase range of motion. Hot stone massage is very effective in creating harmony, a positive energy flow, and promotes a sense of balance and peace.

Massage Therapy is covered by most extended health insurance plans. It is advisable to check with your plan administrator for possible plan requirements of a doctor’s prescription prior to treatment.
